Introduction

Principle

In principle, all nonlinear devices can realize frequency doubling, and the frequency doubling realized by using the nonlinearity of semiconductor devices is called solid state frequency multiplier. When a sinusoidal signal is used to excite a nonlinear device, power will be generated at the harmonic frequency of the fundamental frequency. The function of frequency multiplier circuit is to effectively extract the required harmonic signal and suppress its fundamental frequency and unwanted harmonic.

Classification

Passive frequency doubler can be divided into two categories according to its working principle: one is nonlinear resistance frequency multiplier. This kind of frequency multiplier uses the nonlinear resistance effect of double junction transistor, field effect transistor or diode to convert the principle wave of large amplitude sine frequency multiplier into current pulse, and then select the required harmonic wave with frequency selection loop to complete frequency multiplication.
