Introduction

Fundamental

The microwave mixer widely used in communication systems, especially wireless mobile communication systems, generally has three ports, that is, three-port components, generally two input ends and one output end. In general, a weak spatial signal is received at an input port of the receiver and amplified by the low-noise amplifier (LNA) module. The other input port is connected to the local oscillator LO signal provided by the local oscillator, and the output port outputs the IF frequency that needs to be processed at low frequencies.


Characteristic

The length of the microstrip line in the mixer circuit is designed based on the internal wavelength of the microstrip conductor corresponding to the signal frequency. On the one hand, because the signal frequency is close to the local oscillator frequency, the design based on the signal wavelength has little impact on the local oscillator transmission; On the other hand, because the signal power is relatively weak, the circuit design must ensure that the signal loss is minimum. The single-ended mixer circuit is lithographed on the dielectric substrate in the form of a microstrip. It is a planar circuit with a simple structure, easy manufacturing, small volume, and lightweight, but with poor performance and few practical applications.
