Introduction
Shear beam load cell is one of the common main categories or types in the weighing industry. Other types include: for example, compression, tension, and single point. They can be said to be the most common type of load cell used today.
Beam load cells are the largest and most versatile load cells, covering a wide range of possible capacities, different installation options, and accessories. When using single-point units becomes impossible, they are often combined for larger weighing equipment and scales.

Principle
As a simple shear beam operation, the beam type load cell bends slightly when subjected to force or weight. They are usually fixed at one end and free at the other end, acting much like diving boards, although there is also a double-end design, which is installed at both ends and in the center, more similar to a hammock.
In addition, it is often seen that beam load cells fall into two subcategories, depending on how they measure force or weight. The bending beam unit measures the amount of shear deformation, while the shear beam load cell measures the amount of bending distortion.

(2) Good linearity and high precision. Since the strain gauge is connected to the web of the I-beam at a position of 45° from the central axis, only the principal stress corresponding to the shear stress is measured, and is not affected by the bending stress, with good linearity and high precision;
(3) When the sensor is stretched and compressed, the amplitude and distribution of shear stress are the same, that is, the tensile and compressive output sensitivity of the sensor is the same, which is especially suitable for objects that measure tension and compression at the same time;

Application
Shear beams are often used to determine (shear) forces and are suitable for both static (weighing technology) and dynamic (machine building) measurement projects. To determine the magnitude of the applied force, strain gauges or metal foils can be used, either attached to or welded to the measuring body. Shear beam load cell is widely used in industrial weighing technology as well as in special machine construction, factory automation, and stage construction. In addition, they are used in laboratories and the process industry to indirectly measure torque.
