Vertical Antenna

Introduction

A vertical antenna is an antenna placed perpendicular to the ground. It has two forms, symmetry and asymmetry, and the latter is widely used. Symmetrical vertical antennas are often center-fed. The asymmetrical vertical antenna feeds power between the bottom end of the antenna and the ground, and its maximum radiation direction is concentrated in the ground direction when the height is less than 1/2 wavelength, so it is suitable for broadcasting. Asymmetrical vertical antennas are also known as vertical ground antennas.

Principle construction

The vertical antenna is actually a dipole antenna. A dipole antenna consists of two conductors, each with a wavelength of 1/4, that is, the total length of the antenna is half a wavelength. So the even antenna is called a half-wave oscillator. The oscillator of the dipole antenna can be positioned horizontally or vertically. Its pattern is symmetrical with the feed point. The feed point is at the center of the half-wave oscillator. The impedance of the feed point is a pure resistance, approximately 75 Ω (about 73 Ω).

Peculiarity

Physically, an antenna is a combination of one or more conductors by which it can generate an electromagnetic field radiated by applying a time-varying voltage or time-varying current, or it can be placed in an electromagnetic field that generates a time-varying current inside the antenna and a time-varying voltage at its terminal due to the induction of the field.
