Introduction

Electronic Compass has been widely used as a navigation instrument or attitude sensor in modern technical conditions. Compared with the traditional pointer type and balance frame structure compass, the digital compass has low energy consumption, small volume, lightweight, high precision, and miniaturization. Its output signal can be processed to realize a digital display, which can not only be used to point, but also send the digital signal directly to the automatic rudder to control the ship.

Function information

The electronic digital compass can be divided into planar electronic compasses and three-dimensional electronic compasses. Flat electronic compasses require the user to keep the compass level when using it, otherwise, when the compass is tilted, it will also give a change of course when there is no change of course. Although flat electronic compasses are very demanding to use, they are a good value for money if you can ensure that the carrier attached to the compass is always level.

The 3D electronic compass overcomes the severe limitations of the flat electronic auto compass because it has an internal inclination sensor, which can compensate the compass if it is tilted so that the heading data is still accurate even if the compass is tilted. Sometimes to overcome temperature drift, compasses can also have built-in temperature compensation to minimize temperature drift at tilt and pointing angles.

Principle

The three-dimensional electronic compass is composed of three - a dimensional reluctance sensor, a two-axis inclination sensor, and MCU. The 3D reluctance sensor is used to measure the earth's magnetic field, and the inclination sensor is used to compensate when the magnetometer is not horizontal. MCU processes magnetometer and tilt sensor signal and data output and soft iron, hard iron compensation. The magnetometer uses three perpendicular reluctance sensors, each axial sensor to detect the strength of the geomagnetic field in that direction.
