 1.Product Introduction

A flat helical antenna, also known as the planar equiangular spiral antenna, is a kind of spiral antenna and belongs to the non-frequency variable antenna. The planar logarithmic spiral antenna is an angle antenna. The two arms are made of metal sheets, which are symmetrical. Each arm has two edge lines, both of which are equal-angle spiral lines. The two arms of the antenna are wound and unfolded in a plane according to a specific curvature change.

Since the shape of this antenna is determined only by angle and does not include linear length, the characteristics of the antenna are not affected by frequency changes, so it has an extremely wide frequency band. The maximum radiation direction of the plane equiangular spiral antenna is the normal direction on both sides of the plane and radiates circularly polarized waves.

Working principle

1. Because the edge of the flat helical antenna arm is only described by angle, it meets the shape requirements of the non-frequency variable antenna.

2. When the starting ends of the arms are fed, the equiangular helix of the arms can be regarded as a pair of deformed transmission lines. The current on the arms is transmitted, radiated, and attenuated along the line. Each small segment of the helix is a basic radiation sheet. Their orientation changes along the helix. The total radiation field is the superposition of these element radiation fields. The experiment shows that the current on the arm attenuates rapidly to below 20dB after passing through about one wavelength, and the terminal effect is very weak.

3. The radiation field is mainly generated by the part of the structure whose circumference is within a wavelength, which is usually called the effective radiation area to transmit traveling wave current. In other words, the spiral antenna has a "current truncation effect". The part of the helix beyond the truncation point has no significant contribution to radiation. Cutting them off geometrically will not have a significant impact on the electrical performance of the reserved part. Therefore, a finite-size equiangular spiral antenna can be used to achieve approximate non-frequency variation characteristics in the corresponding broadband. After the wavelength is changed, the geometric size of the effective area will change proportionally with the wavelength, so that the approximate frequency-independent characteristics can be obtained within a certain bandwidth.
