Introduction
As the name implies, semi-rigid cable is not easy to be bent and formed. Its outer conductor is made of an aluminum tube or copper tube. Its RF leakage is very small (< - 120dB), and the signal crosstalk caused in the system can be ignored.
Structure
The most basic form of the semi-rigid SMA cable is a coaxial transmission line constructed of metal tubing. Wherein, the metal tube used is generally a copper tube forming an outer conductor, and a wire conductor is provided along the center line of the copper tube. The center wire conductor is supported by a dielectric material so that it can be maintained on the same center axis as the outer conductor.

1. Wide band and wide application
Generally, semi rigid cable assemblies can support RF signal transmission within 65GHz, but cable assemblies terminated with 1.0mm connectors can achieve high-frequency applications up to 110GHz. Semi-rigid coaxial cables vary in size from 0.020 inches to 0.250 inches in diameter. Among Rosenberg's products, 0.141 inch, 0.085 inch, and 0.047 inch cables are popular. 0.047-inch diameter cables using smaller connectors are becoming more and more popular with users because they can support higher frequencies. 0.141 inch diameter semi-rigid coaxial cable uses high-frequency SMA or 2.92mm connector, and the application conditions can generally be up to 27GHz. Although 0.086 inch diameter semi-rigid coaxial cable is often used with an SMA connector, when it is terminated by a 1.85 mm connector, its operating frequency can reach 65 GHz.
2. Form and maintain shape
Semi-rigid coaxial cable is a kind of cable that is rigid enough to maintain its shape and flexible enough to be bent manually. For semi rigid cables, in order to fit into the designed system, they often need to be accurately shaped into various shapes. Shaping semi rigid cable into the desired shape is a risky task. In order to prevent damage to the external pipe wall, special tools shall be used to bend or shape the cable. In addition, once such cables are shaped into a specific shape, it is extremely difficult to change their shape again. This is because the shape change often leads to damage to the outer conductor, resulting in the generation of fine lines in the outer wall, which ultimately affects the electrical performance of the cable assembly. 3. Phase stability
As the semi-rigid coaxial cable is made of high-quality materials, it has a very high electrical stability compared with the flexible coaxial cable with a wire braided outer conductor. The characteristics of metal and dielectric materials change with temperature, so the use of phase stabilized cables is very important for many key systems. 4. Low intermodulation (PIM)
