Rectangular Straight Waveguide is an important guiding wave device that uses metal tubes to transmit electromagnetic waves. The tube walls are usually copper, aluminum or other metal materials, which are characterized by simple structure and high mechanical strength. Waveguide has no inner conductor, low loss, large power capacity, electromagnetic energy is guided to spread in the inner space of the waveguide, can prevent external electromagnetic leakage. It can transmit only TE or TM waves.
The transmission mode of rectangular guided waves
Various TM and TE modes, as well as their linear combinations, can appear in rectangular guided waves. When the operating wavelength is less than the cutoff wavelength of each mode, or when the operating frequency is greater than the cutoff frequency of each mode, these modes are transmission modes, so the waveguide can form multimode transmission.
The cutoff frequency is not only dependent on the waveguide and size, but also on the medium filled in the waveguide.
Transmission characteristics of rectangular guided waves
