Programmable Attenuator

Introduction

The programmable attenuator can be controlled by software. The control interface includes USB, Ethernet, serial ports, etc., which are usually used in the automatic test environment. Variable attenuators and step attenuators are also very similar to this attenuator because the user can select a specific attenuation.

Circuit operating principle

In this circuit, the relay with contact is used to switch the fixed attenuator in turn to obtain stable attenuation. Generally, π - type and T-type attenuators are used more frequently. This circuit adopts π - type circuit with symmetrical input and output. There are also balanced and unbalanced attenuators, which can be connected with electronic circuits.

Function

The programmable attenuator is located between the base station and the terminal. Through the attenuation control of the RF signal, it can simulate the wireless signal, thus realizing the simulation of the test scene. This attenuator provides multiple NC interfaces, and can build test networks at all levels from small to large. The attenuation matrix is used to simulate the air port channel to realize various test items such as mobility, handover and coverage.

Programmable attenuator is generally used to control the power level of microwave signals with TTL\CMOS driver control manner and designed for using in automatic test equipment (ATE) systems operating in the dc to 18 GHz frequency range and 0-127dB/1dB step dynamic attenuation.
