Radio Frequency Detector

Introduction

Radio frequency detector is an active coaxial component, which can convert RF signal strength into DC voltage output in proportion, also known as "video output". It is usually used to monitor and measure the signal strength of RF signal source. It can accurately detect and measure the amplitude and power of RF or IF signals, and are widely used in wireless systems. The general RF detector detects the RF input signal and outputs a voltage value, which is proportional to the power of the input signal and can correspond to the input power value according to the output voltage value.

Bandwidth: the signal frequency range that the detector can detect.

Dynamic range: the range of maximum signal power and minimum power that can be detected.

Pulse response time: use a pulse modulation signal, such as carrier frequency 1GHz, pulse width 100ns to input to the input port of the detector, and measure the rising edge and falling edge time of the detector input. This parameter reflects how fast the geophone responds to power changes. In general, Log detector has a fast response time of tens of ns, while RMS detector has a slow response time of us.

Temperature stability: it refers to the change of measurement results relative to temperature, usually expressed in dB.

Characteristic

Since the radio frequency detector effectively converts AC signals to DC signals, it will be necessary to average the signals at the output end. In most cases, the device has a pin that can connect the average capacitor. Of course, there is an implied tradeoff between the average level and the response time of the output to the input changes.

Many RF detectors also have flexible output signal scaling characteristics. The nominal slope can be set by connecting the VOUT pin directly to the VSET pin. However, if these pins are connected through a resistive divider, the output can be easily amplified.

RF frequency detectors are used to convert specific RF signal characteristics into analog signals, which can then be used to trigger circuit functions or adjust the internal gain control circuit to an appropriate value. And it exists in the transmitting circuit and the receiving circuit, and these components are usually directly integrated into the signal chain.
